Grandma Ruth's Cinnamon Bread

Growing up my grandma always made the best baked goods. Really she made the best everything. She's 90 now, so she doesn't make much of anything anymore, but she has passed many of her recipes and secrets on. You all should feel very special that I'm sharing one of them with you today.

One of the best things Grandma ever baked was her cinnamon bread. She also made this bread plain, without the cinnamon in it, and really both are excellent.

Here is Grandma's recipe for her bread:

3 1/4 cups warm water (around 100 degrees)
3 tablespoons shortening
3 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon salt
2 packages yeast
7 1/2 cups sifted flour

Combine ingredients in a bowl, add in four cups of flour, knead, add more flour. Put dough in a greased bowl, let rise in oven for about an hour. I turned the oven on the lowest setting and then turned it off after preheated, so the oven was warm.
After an hour, take the dough out and punch it down. Put back in oven to rise for an hour.

After the second hour, take the dough out and divide in two [for plain bread, put the two halves directly into greased bread pans]. Roll out the dough and spread cinnamon filling on the bread. For the cinnamon filling, I combined butter, cinnamon, brown sugar and granulated sugar. You can use a recipe for filling of cinnamon rolls, or just go with a combination that tastes good to you.

Roll the bread, folding the cinnamon mixture inward. Place the dough in greased bread pans. Back at 425 degrees for 24-30 minutes.

This bread is so good! I hope you enjoy this as much as my family does!
