When I Am Afraid...

My niece Lauren is five. Unfortunately, she has inherited one of my worst qualities: excessive worry. When I was Lauren's age, I had nightmares like crazy and worried all the time. Now, Lauren is having the same issue. When I was younger, one week in Sunday School, we made a little clock with Psalm 56:3 written on the back. The verse says "When I am afraid I will trust in you." This verse reminded me that I didn't need to worry because God has a plan and I am a part of it, so I can trust Him all the time. This is something I still need to remember daily, but that little clock was such a good reminder for my young spirit that I hung it by my bed.

The other night my mom called me to tell me that Lauren is going through the same thing that I did when I was younger. My mom told her about the verse and the clock and she wanted one too. We're going to see my family this weekend, so I decided to make Lauren a clock like I had and give it to her when I see her.

Here's what I got:

I printed out a clock face from a Google images search, got some heavy scrapbook papers, my awesome circle cutter, some arrow stickers, flower brads, and glue.

Using my circle cutter, I cut out the clock face and background and glued them together.

I used my Cricut Your Story laminator and binder to laminate the clock - first time I used it for laminating and it was super handy! I used two of the arrow stickers and backed them with cardstock so they were a little more sturdy. After that, I attached them to the clock with a flower brad so she can move the hands around. Then I used the rest of the scrapbook paper to make a sign for the verse. I hand-wrote the verse and then laminated that as well. Finally, I attached the clock to the sign with yellow ribbon, and used more yellow ribbon for hanging on the top.

It turned out so cute! I hope it helps Lauren to remember that God is in control all the time so she doesn't need to worry, just like my clock sign helped me.

Have a wonderful week and remember, He is risen!

  5. What a great idea! Sometimes all a child needs is a little reminder that they're not alone.
