Remember my vintage button lampshade? Well I finally got around to painting the $5 lamp I thrifted to go with the shade. I loved the design of the lamp, it just needed a makeover before it got placed in the guest room. Here's what it looked like when I bought it:
I got the lamp home and found out it didn't work, but Handy Andy worked his magic and fixed it up. Then I cleaned it with soap and water and taped off the electrical parts.
At first I thought about keeping the two-toned look, and just painting the darker parts of the lamp, but I couldn't find a spray paint with the hammered finish in a color I liked. Instead, I decided to paint the entire lamp with the same blue paint I used on my frame for the guestroom and then finish it with a high gloss lacquer. I used Rust-oleum Wildflower Blue, satin finish [love this color!], and then coated it with Rust-oleum Specialty Lacquer. I did two coats of the blue and one coat of the lacquer.
I love the way it turned out with the gloss finish! It looks great with the lampshade in my guestroom.
I'm excited to be chipping away at finishing the decor of the guestroom, one project at a time! I'm also working on refinishing the light fixtures in our kitchen and will be sharing those soon.
How did you start the New Year?

When I first saw the blue color I thought this would never work but with the shade, you rocked it! Looks great!

ReplyDeleteThat is really cute! I'm wondering though, the lamp shade doesn't get too hot for the buttons to come loose does it?
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting all! Sarah, the bulb in the lamp is a long-life florescent bulb so it doesn't get hot enough to melt the hot glue. That's good to consider though! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this. Come back on Wednesday, and link it to my Wednesday Pinterest favorites party :).
