Pinterest Thursday: Shutter Mail Holder

I feel like I haven't posted a new project of my own in a while! Truth be told, I did this project several months ago but haven't gotten around to taking any pictures of it for posting. Anyway, over the summer Handy Andy redid the siding on our house. The first step of this project was tearing all of the old, rotting, ugly siding down. With this came the old shutters. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of the step by step of this project, so I'll just show you the inspiration and my version.

Here's the beautiful inspiration [can't, for the life of me, find the source]:

So cute and practical!

I took one of the old shutters, painted it green first, and then painted white over the green. After the paint dried, I sanded the edges. I wanted the green to show through the white since the walls in my kitchen are green, and that's where I planned to hang it. After that, I glued a paper bag to the back of the shutter so that the mail wouldn't fall through the back. This is a very important step!

Here's what I ended up with:

I also picked up some leaves from our yard, dried them out and then used Mod Podge to glue them on to the shutter.

Now there's a much cuter alternative to cluttering up my fridge with magnets! And this project was totally FREE because I already had everything! Got to love that.

I hope you all are recovering from your Christmas celebrations!

P.S. Linking up to these parties!
